[Flower spot report] ~Shimane Flower Village~
Shimane Flower Village, located in Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture, famous for Izumo Taisha Shrine and Okuninushi no Mikoto, is a flower park that aims to promote the floriculture industry through various interactions and learning experiences.
The park is run with the aim of being a flower park that visitors can feel close to.
This time, I would like to share with you some photos from my visit last year, showing you the beautiful scenery of Shimane Flower Village in early spring.
First, here is what happened on January 27th of last year.
On this day, I visited the place to see the winter-blooming tulips (ice tulips).
When you see the colorful winter-blooming tulips planted in the lawn flower beds, you will forget the cold of midwinter and your heart will feel warm and fuzzy.
In the winter in Sanin, the sky is often leaden, but if you visit on a sunny day, the blue sky will be reflected in the glass of the main building, allowing you to see a wonderful collaboration like this.
Don't be discouraged even if you can't see the blue sky! There are ways to enjoy rainy days.
It's a reflection of a puddle.
If you come across this opportunity after a rain shower, please give it a try, being careful not to get your clothes wet.
If you are using a smartphone, it is easier to capture reflections by holding the smartphone upside down and bringing the camera closer to the ground.
The walkway leading from the main building to the glass room doubles as an event space where seasonal flowers are displayed and sold, and works from sketching competitions and photo contests are displayed. Walking around the exhibits indoors is also a way to enjoy yourself on bad weather days.
On this day, the most popular Christmas rose exhibition and sale, probably the most exciting event of the year, was held. Gorgeous multi-petaled varieties (look closely and you'll see the 12,800 yen price tag!) and rare Rikyu varieties were all gathered together.
A wide variety of seasonal flowers are planted in the glass room located roughly halfway through the facility.
At the time, cyclamens were planted.
The winter decorations included colorful cyclamens and equally striking yellow oncidiums.
Izumo City is one of the leading producers of cyclamen in western Japan, and it is highly regarded for its quality.
They are shipped not only to the Sanin region but also to the Kansai region.
One of the roles of Shimane Flower Village is to allow people to learn about the region's specialty varieties in this way.
Next, let me look at what happened on March 24th of last year.
In mid-March, the cyclamens in the glasshouse will be replaced with cineraria, a spring flower.
The colorful cineraria are planted in a small space, making for a very impressive sight.
From adult-like ones with sharp petals to cute, rounded cinerarias, there are so many different colors and shapes that you will never get bored of looking at them.
Outside, Christmas roses are blooming everywhere.
There are so many different colors and shapes of Christmas roses scattered throughout the flower beds that it's hard to imagine how many varieties there are.
On this day, gorgeous floating flowers were made from the Christmas roses blooming in the facility. There are almost no two floating flowers that are the same (I think there are probably 20 types), so at least these varieties were planted.
In addition to the wide variety of seasonal plantings and events, there are also flower paintings of the Chinese zodiac that change every year and a playground with three-dimensional equipment that children can enjoy, so people of all ages can enjoy themselves.
Additionally, the Izumo City Toki Dispersal Breeding Center, located next to the connecting corridor, is open to the public almost all year round.
Shimane Hana no Sato is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary!
Anyone who purchases an annual pass (renewal or new) by March 31st will receive an original tote bag as a gift.
You can enjoy customizing it by coloring it colorfully or attaching your favorite badges and pins.
Shimane Flower Village is a place where you can enjoy seasonal flowers, have fun playing outside with your children, and even observe the rare Japanese crested ibis. If you live nearby or are visiting from far away in the Sanin or Sanyo region, be sure to stop by when you're sightseeing in the Sanin region.
