Obara Shikizakura
Obara's Shikizakura is said to have spread from a parent tree planted in the early 1800s by a doctor from Obara Kitamachi, Toyota City. It is an interspecific hybrid of Mamezakura and Edo Higan, and was designated as the Obara district's tree in 1978. Shikizakura can be seen all over the district, including in Kawami Shikizakura Village, Washi no Furusato, Kakigairi Promenade, Obara Fureai Park, and Shogetsuji Temple. Among them, Maebora Shikizakura is over 100 years old and is designated as a natural monument of Aichi Prefecture and is highly valued. There are approximately 10,000 Shikizakura trees in the Obara district.
