50,000 hydrangeas bloom along the promenade around Fudagaike Pond in Katahara Onsen. During the Hydrangea Festival in June every year, events such as an exhibition of over 100 rare hydrangeas and a tourist photo contest are held. The area is lit up at night, creating a fantastic landscape that is different from the daytime. You can also watch the Genji fireflies dance at Hotaru no Yado. Access is a 15-minute taxi ride from JR Gamagori Station or Mikage Station. During the Hydrangea Festival, special buses run from the south exit of JR Gamagori Station.
